Playing Time
- Be on time (3:05 or 5:05).
- When a coach is speaking, balls are not dribbling and all eyes are on who is speaking.
- If practice is missed due to choice, playing time will be affected and discussed with the player. If practice is missed due to illness, or with good reason, playing time will not necessarily be affected depending on player conditioning, understanding of the game plan, etc.
- When you are not in a drill you are engaged in the drill, or scrimmage. There should be NO side conversations, sitting, or anything but complete focus on the task at hand.
- When a drill is called out, EVERYONE should echo the coach.
- I expect the same effort in practice as you would play in games (You cannot just turn on and off effort).
- Coach will have 2-3 individual player meetings daily
- NO COMPLAINING (There are no “I can’t” statements)
- Demonstrate Togetherness, Purpose, and Toughness daily.
Game Expectations
- We will dress-up on home games, and wear Dutchmen gear on away games.
- Be on time for away games.
- Try and ride the bus home, but if you cannot COMMUNICATE with coaches.
- Varsity must be in the bleachers for tip-off of B and C-squad games.
- Varsity players will not be on phones during B and C-squad games and B and C-squad players will not be on phones when varsity is playing. Watch your teammates and support one another!
- Varsity will meet in my classroom with 5-6 minutes left in the B-squad game and with 7-8 minutes left in the warm-up.
- When in the locker room, no one is on their phone and all talk is about basketball and what needs to be done. We need to be focused on the task at hand.
- At halftime, players will have a few moments to discuss what went well, what needs to be worked on, and anything BASKETBALL related.
- B/C-Squads will sit behind the varsity bench and on timeouts will stand behind to listen to what is being said in the huddle.
- Clean up the locker room before you leave.
- LETTERING POLICY: Any player who receives varsity minutes in a game will receive a varsity letter.
Bench Expectations
- The bench will be engaged in the game by cheering on teammates and helping people on the floor communicate.
- Players will sit up straight in their chair.
- Players will demonstrate acceptable body language. Fans, teammates, and coaches should not be able to see that you are upset due to poor play, playing time, or other reasons. There is a time and a place to discuss frustrations, but gameday is not one of them!
- When a teammate is coming off the floor, the player will acknowledge everyone on the bench.
- When coming off of the floor, grab the hand of the player coming in and tell them what defense we are in or who they are guarding.
- We will leave our bench area clean so others do not have to clean up for us.
Academic Expectations
- Players are expected to be respectful in the classroom, participate in discussion, and turn assignments in on time.
- Players will communicate and work with teachers in regards to classroom performance and assignments.
- D and F lists come to me after week 4 of the season. Any student on the list will be talked to. If the name is still on the list on week 7 they will have to miss practices to attend study hall, which will affect playing time.
- If you need help, ask for it!
Community Expectations
- You represent your community everytime you put on your jersey and you represent our program every time you step foot in the community.
- Be a positive role model in the community that adults can be proud of and younger girls can aspire to be.
- Twice a year we are scheduled to clean road ditches. When scheduled, you need to try your best to be there. It is ALL our responsibility.
- Any alcohol, tobacco, or drug violation is subject to the punishments outlined in the school handbook. We cannot afford to be short handed due to any violation of this nature and more importantly go against the values held by our program.
Playing Time
- Playing time is based off of what the coaches see in practice and in games.
- I will only discuss playing time with PLAYERS. We need to be accountable in having these difficult conversations.
- Your playing time is NOT your worth. Basketball lasts for a small amount of time. Your worth to me as a person far extends the basketball court.
- Tough for coaches too, because we genuinely care!
